The Backstory:
For over 24 years, the Flickers Arts Collaborative has produced and organized film screenings and exhibitions throughout the State of Rhode Island.

• In 1983 it presented Newport's first International Film Festival.

• In 1987, it created the award-winning television series, “Between Takes.”

• Since 1995, it has been producing the acclaimed and award-winning, Jubilé Franco-Américain.

• In 1996, it created the Rhode Island International Film Festival (RIIFF) and, for the past eight years has staged unique presentations throughout the region including a family-based kids film festival and a highly successful Hortror Film Festival in October.

• RIIFF is now an Academy Award Qualifier in the Short, Live Action Category. This means that the Grand Prize Film Festival winner in this category automatically is entered as an Academy of Motion Pictures Award qualifier. We are the only festival in the New England that can claim this recognition. We have also been successfully working with The Columbus Theater in Providence to assist in the changing of their programming to cultural, foreign, documentary and other ambitious endeavors. Our Executive Director, George T. Marshall, was on the Phoenix List of “Most Influential People” in the Arts category.

Last year we had a record 19,000 participants during our festival run. We had 8 sellouts, 236 filmmakers and celebrities registered and the list goes on.

Flickers is also the presenter of ongoing educative and generative programs such as

• Screenwriters Salon
• Between Takes Filmmaker’s Forums
• Take 1-2-3: Filmmaking with the Pros
• megaTOON™ & LocalVISIONs™
• KidsEye™
, our filmmaking summer camp for kids
• RI Film Forum
• ScriptBiz™
• The New England Student Film Festival
• "U-Speak" Student PSA Contest
• RI Investment Forum

• The Creative Impulse Awards
• RI Alliance of Film and Media Arts
• The Jubilé Franco-Américain
Jamestown Chamber Music Series
• The Human Rights Watch Film Festival
• Smithsonian Institute Culture Fest

plus a slew of Festivals that we either created, produce or support. These include the Providence Film Festival, the Providence Jewish Film Festival, the Rhode Island International Horror Film Festival, the Providence Gay & Lesbian Film Festival, East West Crosswinds: Exploring Asian Culture Thru Cinema; the Providence World Film Festival (with a focus on Latin-American and Third World films films), Picture Start and the Human Rights Watch Film Festival.

The Pitch:
Flickers has also created Flickers' Cinema Rhode Island a membership organization for those who love film. Flickers’ Cinema Rhode Island is nonprofit organization devoted solely and steadfastly to the Film Arts.

Please remember that we are non-profit. Since RIIFF and Cinema Rhode Island receives limited corporate and government support, we rely upon private membership support, events, advertising and ad trades to sustain and grow our year-round efforts to educate and outreach filmmakers and film lovers.

As a member of Flickers’ Cinema Rhode Island, you receive a smorgasbord of benefits plus the knowledge that (a portion of) your contribution is tax-deductible through the Flickers Arts Collaborative.
