H.P. LOVECRAFT WALKING TOUR 2015

Our Next Special Tour to Explore Lovecraft’s Favorite Providence Haunts will be held on Saturday, Oct. 24, 2015 at 12:00 Noon and Sunday, Oct. 25, 2015 at 12:00 Noon

PROVIDENCE, R.I. – Providence native and cult horror writer H.P. Lovecraft will be the subject of a special walking tour and film series during the annual FLICKERS: Vortex Sci-Fi, Fantasy & Horror Film Festival (Vortex), October 19-25th. The tour took place this year on two days: Saturday, October 24th at 12:00 Noon and Sunday, October 25th at 12:00 Noon.

The life and work of Providence's best-known fantasy and horror author, Howard Phillips Lovecraft, will provide the backdrop for the tour, which will be lead by the Rhode Island Historical Society.  Lovecraft's "Providence stories" (written between 1924 and 1935) provide the basis for this walk.  Lovecraft wrote eloquently, and in great detail, about such landmarks as Prospect Terrace, the First Baptist Church, and Benefit Street houses.  Participants will see the site of his former home, as well as locales mentioned in The Case of Charles Dexter Ward, The Haunter of the Dark, The Shunned House, and The Call of Cthulhu.

Following the tour, which lasted for approximately 90 minutes, participants were treated to a ticket to see premiere films inspired by Lovecraft. The screenings took place on Saturday, 3:00 p.m at the Bell Street Chapel, 5 Bell Street, Providence, RI.; and again on Sunday, 2:00 p.m. at the Providence Public Library, 150 Empire Street, Providence, RI.
