About Us

FLICKERS NON-DISCRIMINATION POLICY

Commitment to Diversity, Inclusion and Non-discrimination

Since its founding in 1981, Flickers (The Newport Film/Video Society & Arts Collaborative) has demonstrated an ongoing commitment to people and to fair employment practices and unqualified consideration of artist submissions. As Flickers has grown and expanded, its work force and programming demographics have become more diverse. Flickers believes that this diversity helps the organization realize its full potential and truly reflects its commitment to the arts and international film. Recognizing and developing the talents of each individual as well as those of the artists who submit their work to Flickers brings new ideas to Flickers and, ultimately, the world. The organization benefits from the creativity and innovation that results when Flickers and the numerous artists, who have different experiences, perspectives and cultures, work together. This is what drives invention, innovation, and high performance at Flickers. We believe a well managed, diverse work force and submission demographic expand Flickers’ base of knowledge, skills and cross-cultural understanding, which in turn, enables us to understand, relate and respond to the diverse and ever-changing film industry throughout the world, connecting everyone involved to the power of independent film. Our overall commitment is reflected in our diversity and inclusion philosophy.

Compliance, Equal Opportunity and Affirmative Action

Flickers’ policies and supporting practices are built upon this philosophy, as well as a set of values that include a strong belief that all employees, business partners, sponsors, and submitting artists should be treated with dignity and respect. In accordance with this, Flickers does not discriminate against any employee or applicant for employment, business partner, sponsor, or submitting artist because of race, creed, color, religion, gender, sexual orientation, gender identity/expression, national origin, disability, age, or covered veteran status. It is also Flickers’ policy to comply with all applicable national and local laws pertaining to nondiscrimination and equal opportunity.

Consequences

Flickers will not tolerate any form of discrimination and will take appropriate disciplinary action, including possibly termination, of any person determined to have engaged in unlawful conduct under this policy.

Non-Retaliation

Flickers will not retaliate nor discriminate against any employee or applicant because he or she has opposed any unlawful employment practice or filed a charge of employment discrimination, testified, assisted, or participated in any manner in an investigation, proceeding, or hearing related to employment practices.
