Flickers' Rhode Island International Film Festival (RIIFF) has secured its place in the global community as the portal for the best in international independent cinema; earning the respect of domestic and foreign filmmakers, filmgoers and trend watchers. This confluence of art and commerce brought together world-class celebrities, award-winning filmmakers, new talent and audience members in record numbers last year.
Funding generated by The Red Carpet Experience: Providence will be used to not only underwrite the Festival’s 41st Season in August, it will support such community outreach and educational programs as the Youth Film Jury, Rhode Island Film Forum; Cine ¡OLÉ!; the Golden Jasmine Chinese Film Festival; the Vortex Sci-Fi Film Festival; the New England Student Film Festival; the Providence LGBTQ Film Festival; the Providence Underground Film Festival; the Roving Eye International Film Festival; the RIIFF Technology Forum; the 7 Day PSA Competition; the KidsEye™ Summer Filmmaking Camp; Flickers North Country Film Festival; ScriptBiz™; the RI International Horror Film Festival; the Flickers North Country Film Festival, the Québec Film Festival and an expanded KidsEye International Film Festival in August with workshops, tutorials and youth screenings.

1. Date of first Academy Awards, held in the Blossom Room of the Hollywood Roosevelt Hotel: May 16, 1929
2. Price of guest tickets for the first Academy Awards: $5
3. Height of Oscar statuette: 13½ inches. The 8-pound, The statuettes are solid bronze and plated in 24-karat gold. The statuette that will be handed out at the Academy Awards Sunday night is said to be modeled after a real man. That man's name is not Oscar but Mexican actor and director, Emilio Fernandez.
4. Diameter of Oscar statuette base: 5¼ inches
5. Weight of Oscar statuette: 8½ pounds
6. Since 1929, number of Oscar statuettes presented: A total of 3,096 Oscar statuettes have been awarded from the inception of the award through the 91st ceremony.
