This e-mail was received from a writer who won a First Prize Award with
RIIFF:
"Speaking
of great meetings--I met with Renegade Effects Studio
in North Hollywood last week and sold them "Princess
& the Pirate"
with a financial contigency of thirty days. They were
taking the
project to their financial backers this past weekend
and will have
an answer to me in two weeks.Fingers crossed! Anyway,
it was nice
to hear the sounds of gushing over my writing...even
if there are a
few minor edits to be taken care of should the money
men come
through for us. If the money comes through (they're
anticpating
about a $43 million production budget) the project
will be greenlit
immediately. I'll let you know when I get the final
word.I can't thank you
and the festival enough for the help in getting my
script the exposure it so needed.Chat soon, Dana"

The Rhode Island International Film Festival is calling for Screenplay Entries for its 12th annual festival, which takes place August 5-10, 2008 in historic Providence, Rhode Island.
The Festival is accepting screenplays in all genres. Screenplays must have been written after 2005.
Screenplays entered into the competition will be adjudicated by a distinguished panel of industry professionals, educators, peers and film fans. The Grand Prize winner may have segments of the work produced during Take 1-2-3: Filmmaking with the Pros, RIIFF's annual Master Class on Production which features the participation of a noted director or as a central focus during ScriptBiz™ the screenplay pitch forum. The Grand Prize winner will also receive prizes valued at over $15,000. This includes travel, accommodations, Final Draft software and screenplay promotions. Since the contest winners are announced following the main Festival, the Grand Prize winner’s work will be a focal point for RIIFF 2009.
Screenplays will be judged on creativity, innovation,
vision, originality and the use of language. The key
element is that of communication and how it complements
and is transformed by the language of film.
The deadline for 2008 screenplay submissions is July
5, 2008. Winners will be announced by October
13, 2008 (over Columbus Day Weekend) ) following the main Festival.
