Meet Rhode Island Screenwriter and Director, Chris Sparling.
Chris was born and raised in North Providence, Rhode Island. He wrote the 2010 film "BURIE"D starring Ryan Reynolds, for which he won "Best Original Screenplay" from the National Board of Review of Motion Pictures, as well as a Spanish Academy Award in the same category. His Black List script, ATM, was produced by Gold Circle Films and released by IFC Films in 2012. Chris's feature directing debut, the supernatural thriller "THE ATTICUS INSTITUTE," will be released in early 2015. His most recent script, "SEA OF TREES," is expected to be released in 2015, starring Matthew McConaughey and directed by Gus Van Sant. He is currently adapting author Jo Nesbo's bestselling crime novel "BLOOD ON SNOW" for Warner Brothers and Leonardo DiCaprio. He has also sold TV projects to F/X, Universal Television, and Fox Television.
During an in-depth conversation, Chris will speak about his professional journey, screen his work and share insights into what it takes to succeed in the film industry.

From script to screen, Rhode Island has become the Independent state for film. Starting with the foundation provided by the film and media programs at our colleges and universities, and the unique talent base of creative artists who have made their homes here, the Ocean State has built a reputation as a one-stop film studio. Among such notable filmmakers as Wes Anderson, Woody Allen and the Farrelly Brothers, who have made their films within our state, the independent horror genre is steadily becoming an industry standard for RI’s film community.
“Behind the Camera Lens,” is hosted by Steven Feinberg (“Fortress,” “Peter York,” “Pell Grants: A Passion for Education), Executive Director of the Rhode Island Film & Television Office, the man behind the state’s high profile within the industry, and filmmaking professionals who have successfully made careers within the industry.

The tour departs from the John Brown House at 52 Power Street.

The life and work of Providence's best-known fantasy and horror author, Howard Phillips Lovecraft, provide the backdrop for this walking tour. Acknowledged genius of occult and horror fiction, Lovecraft's "Providence stories" (written between 1924 and 1935) provide the basis for this walk. Lovecraft wrote eloquently, and in great detail, about such landmarks as Prospect Terrace, the First Baptist Church, and Benefit Street houses. See the site of his former home, as well as the sights mentioned in The Case of Charles Dexter Ward, The Haunter of the Dark, The Shunned House, and The Call of Cthulhu. Lovecraft's own words offer a most amazing literary, historical, and architectural walking tour.

extensive look at the making of Stephen King's 1989 film, Pet Sematary. Of particularly interest to the filmmakers were the origins of the original story itself, the impact a Hollywood production had on a rural New England community, and the legacy the film has carved out among horror fans and scholars of Stephen King's work.
In addition to featuring dozens of cast and crew interviews most of whom have never before been interviewed about their involvement in the film this documentary will also take fans on the first ever tour of all the filming locations used in and around Maine. With countless never-before-seen photographs and recently discovered home video footage of the production from 1988, original props from the film, local media coverage, Unearthed & Untold: The Path to Pet Sematary is an all encompassing documentary by fans for the fans.

Literary Providence: The Life and Times of H. P. Lovecraft

The life and work of Providence's best-known fantasy and horror author, Howard Phillips Lovecraft, provide the backdrop for this walking tour. Acknowledged genius of occult and horror fiction, Lovecraft's "Providence stories" (written between 1924 and 1935) provide the basis for this walk. Lovecraft wrote eloquently, and in great detail, about such landmarks as Prospect Terrace, the First Baptist Church, and Benefit Street houses. See the site of his former home, as well as the sights mentioned in The Case of Charles Dexter Ward, The Haunter of the Dark, The Shunned House, and The Call of Cthulhu. Lovecraft's own words offer a most amazing literary, historical, and architectural walking tour.
